How will the lessons take place?

The lessons will be conducted via Google Meet. No software is required if you are using a desktop computer or laptop (which we strongly recommend.) If you are using a tablet, such as an iPad, you will need to install the Google Meet app. A link for the meeting will be emailed to you ahead of the start of the course. If it’s your first time using Meet, you will have to allow your browser access to your computer’s camera and microphone, which usually just means clicking ‘allow’ on a box that will pop up when you join the meeting. We advise using Google Chrome as your browser. For troubleshooting, please click here.

What ages are the classes aimed at?

The ‘Launchpad’ courses are aimed at students taking the 11+ exams. They will serve as a perfect primer for students heading into year 5 or an opportunity for students heading into year 6 to consolidate and refresh their skills. Given the difficulty of the 11+ exams, the techniques that we are teaching remain relevant to students heading into year 7 who could do with a recap or a confidence boost ahead of the new year. If you’re unsure whether the courses are suitable, feel free to drop us a line.

Will you be setting homework?

Yes! But homework is not compulsory and we totally understand if a student has a busy week and doesn’t have the time to complete the tasks we set. That said, homework helps to consolidate the information learnt in class, so we do encourage students to complete it if possible. We will ask that completed work is submitted to us the day prior to the lesson so that we have time to look at it. Instructions for submitting the work will be communicated in a welcome email. The weekly homework will be discussed in class with every student given the chance to present their work and ask questions.

And there’s an assessment at the end?

At the end of the course, we will set a homework in the style of an 11+ assessment, with clear instructions and guidance to demystify the experience. We will mark and return the homework, providing detailed feedback and suggested next steps.

Will you be running further courses?

Yes! We plan to run courses on a whole range of topics during the coming academic year. Some will build on ‘Launchpad’ while others will be standalone courses addressing specific areas such as grammar, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, non-fiction (writing and comprehension) and poetry (writing and comprehension). We will also run courses covering the 11+ maths syllabus. Please feel free to email us to register your interest in any of these courses and we will give you advance notice of when they are set to run.

What are your Terms and Conditions?

Our class sizes are limited to 16 to optimise the experience for our students. Once the course has started, new students will not be able to join. Once you have registered a student for the course, a space is reserved for that student to attend each weekly class. As such, please ensure that the student is available for all course dates before processing your payment, as it will not be possible to refund any missed classes. You can cancel the booking so long as we receive confirmation of your cancellation via email, to whichiswhytuition@gmail.com, more than seven calendar days before the start date of the course (minus any transaction fees that we have had to pay). Cancellations made within seven days of the start of the course cannot be refunded. We cannot take responsibility for internet connection issues experienced by the customer. Each individual student must have their own booking. Log in details, advice on how to create the best environment for the lessons and any equipment requirements will be communicated to you by email before the start of the course. We reserve the right to remove disruptive students from the classroom if it is necessary to do so for safeguarding reasons.
